Land Grid Tag Fun Run

Robin Willis17 Apr 2007 @ 07:22

A breif description

Equipment

Grid section from NY aprox. 4x8 blocks
Either 2 teams of 3 or 4 players or 4 teams of 3 or 4 players
brightly colored tape, 4 colors
sharpie markers, 1 color per player
cellphone or timer watch

Rules

Each team starts in opposite corners if the chosen field
a time limit is decided (prob. 30 minutes is good)

With the tape, players attempt to tag as many intersections as possible.
An intersection is tagged by a member when he places tape on the intersection and writes the time tagged on that tape.

A person can only tag one corner of each intersection. In order for a team to gain complete control of a corner, three independent team members must tag three corners of an intersection.

One point is awarded to the team in control of the intersection. The team with the most points wins.

If there is a tie on the intersection. Ie no one holds a majority of markers on the intersection, no team is awarded a point.

If a member of a different team approaches an intersection which they have no possibility of winning for their own team, that member is out and must return to the center and hopefully cry.

When the time limit is over all the groups meet back in the center and go through the grid taking down the tape and recording the information.

Who would have though Al Gore has power point skills

inconvienent Truth Review

Robin Willis31 Jan 2007 @ 11:12

From the perspective of an artist and graphic designer, I believe that Al Gore’s, An Inconvient Truth, is wildly successful. The most effective aspect of the film is how engaging the presentation of his lecture is. One reason many people have ignored global warming for so long is because of the feeling of hopelessness created due to the complexity of the problem. Gore does an excellent job creating compelling evidence, that effectively engages its target audiences. He uses powerful imagery, simplified scientific evidence, and short impressive facts to create a lecture and film that turn people on to global warming instead of off. Gore also does a great job of showing compassion, explaining causes for error in the past and, and does not concern himself with putting too much blame on anyone, especially his audience.
On the other hand, I did not care for the back-stories in the film. I understand how they personalize his intentions but overall they are irrelevant to his argument aside from the fact that the debate over global warming is an ethical one, and his understanding comes from personal experience. It however did not inspire me to contemplate about personal events in my past and channel that energy towards fighting global warming.
Instead, I would have liked to see more information in the lecture about solutions and actions people can take. Whenever a person is approached with a problem they immediately want that problem to be followed with a solution. When Gore makes the point that, every person’s actions can be a part of the solution he presents, he spend more time in detail about what exactly should people do and how they should do it. Instead he brushes over these points with one slide showing a list of different actions. Also, his point that economic growth and environmental protection can coexist is one of the most important points within the lecture, since the greatest opposition to environmental regulations in America are large corporations, more than anyone they need to be shown how they can increase profit through sustainable and synergetic design and environmental protection.

Stop Global Warming

Robin Willis05 Jan 2007 @ 10:23

So there hasn't been snow in new york this winter. If that scares you then you should sign this online virtual march at StopGLobalWarming.org. From what I found this seems to be the largest online body dedicated to stopping global warming. The only way to create action is to first unite and the internet makes it really easy. I know eveyone says this about signing things, but it will really take like a minute tops so just go fill in your name.

Slavery is back

The World Trade Organization has sugested a new model for western companies doing business in Africa to completely own people employed in Africa. They claim that this will be benificial for people in Africa because if they get sick or something and cannot work the company will have to take care of them. Sounds Creepy to me check it out

Here are some Bootlegs to Celebrate the Merry Kwanzaa with

Robin Willis25 Dec 2006 @ 06:55

If you go to http://www.bigo.com.sg/ and scroll down on the left side there is a surprisingly good quality bootleg from one of the shows at St. Anne's Warhouse last week of Lou Reed performing his entire album «Berlin.» It features many of the original session musicians, Antony (of Antony & the Johnsons) and Sharon Jones (of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings).
Also, a few posts further down, is a link to Beck perfoming on KCRW songs from «The Information.» These are versions which are more stripped down (and a hell of a lot more interesting) than the Information versions.
enjoy.
