In the past year I have been making many attempts to organize all things in my life. I am not quite totally compulsive in my labeling, tagging, and boxing. But I have found organization to be an enabling practice, allowing me to work and think more efficiently. Lately though, I have been thinking about organization and how it is applied to ones studies and work. The interesting thing about organization is that it does not exist in nature. It is a human invention. Experts decided pluto was not a planet. But up until that time pluto had been considered a planet. Really, there is no such thing as a planet, a planet is only what an expert deems a planet. Majors in college are designed so that people can place themselves in a level of specialized study to become an expert within that field. A while back I saw something Devin was working on which had a quote from Lenin, «everything is connected to everything». Devin told me it was a truism, I agreed. So where do we draw the line between specialization and generalization. Specialization is a form of organization, because no-one can be an expert on everything they must limit there field of comprehension to a specific subject matter. This allows one to create progress and increase productivity within their specialized field and benefit from the advantages of organization. On the other hand specialization and organization distorts the true nature of any subject...
