Design and Fabrication
Robin Willis, 27 Dec 2008 @ 09:18 PM
The crafty guys over at the Media Lab class I took this semester called Design and Fabrication. Not only were cool enough to video tape every class and post it, which proved to be super helpful, they wrote a script condensing the 52 hours of footage into 2 minutes. I think its a pretty rad video, but maybe I'm just a sucker for time lapse stuff. Check it out and look closely at the very end you can see me for a few frames presenting the pen plotter I built for the class. Which reminds me - if anyone has any unwanted or broken printers that have been sitting in a closet for too long, I am on the hunt for printer parts and would be more then happy to take them off your hands. |
Whyroots
Robin Willis, 22 Dec 2008 @ 06:38 PM
A few months ago I started as a writer for my friend Daniella's new creation entitled Whyroots. Each week 9 other writers and myself respond to some kind of quesion, photo or text of significance regarding our generation. Its been somewhat difficult since attending grad school i find myself in a fairly isolated bubble from current events and find myself ranting about religion a lot. Anways the project is born in the values of conversation and contestation so check it out and speak your mind. |

Another semester at school has kept me from making even one post this fall. So to recap all the posts I miss. Started writing at whyroots.org, built a printer, am addicted to the wire, was a geodesic dome for halloween, will be living in San Francisco in January and working at Blacksquare . So without further delay here is a taste of my studio project this year. A Building that supports more buildings. Manifesto Excerpt
Why can’t a building anticipate the development of its surroundings? 'Twenty years from now the South Boston Waterfront will be completely transformed from one that is characterized by highways, shipping yards and parking lots into a skyline of massive isolated towers, groups of towers each with their own logic and contained environments. Because creating a project on the same scale as these is not possible due to far restrictions and program briefing, I propose to create a building that serves as a foundation for a series of buildings to grow on top of it, reinforcing the density and interiorized urbanism that defines its surroundings through a series of smaller vertical increments.' |
Small Things / Photoshop is Fun
Robin Willis, 02 Sep 2008 @ 03:16 AM
I have rediscovered Photoshop as a really fun and interesting way to experiment and come up with visual impressive pictures in almost no time. Here are a few things I made earlier this summer, some for fun some for friends that never used them so I thought wow i'll put these on my website. I originally wanted a blog so I could post sketches and small things quickly but then realized I was too lazy to scan stuff, so this is perfect. Enjoy. School starts tomorrow so it will probably be another month until I post. Click something around here to view them all nice and big. |

Gourmet Food not so Gourmet Photography

For some reason whenever I cook i have a huge impulse to take a picture of whatever I make. I am consistently shocked that I have created something that I can put in my mouth and it wont kill me. These are some of my winter dishes(created by yours truely except for the first, they are almost all remixes or mashups of other recipes or things I have eaten). Too bad I don't have a nice camera that can do these justice but hey.
